  • Dr Dave
    Dr. David Kalinowski

    Dr. Kalinowski graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1990 and proceeded to move into private practice form there. After practicing veterinary medicine on the Iron Range for numerous years, Dr. Kalinowski decided to further his career by buying the Mesaba Animal Hospital in 2009. He has since grown the business to the size of 3 doctors, 5 technicians, 3 receptionists, and numerous other individuals that perform vital tasks that make our animal hospital work on a daily basis. Dr. Kalinowski has the knowledge and skills to treat your pet, no matter the type. Dr. K. treats dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, pocket pets, and goats. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, gardening, reading, kayaking, fishing, and spending time with his wife and three children.

    Tammy Kalinowski
    Practice Manager

    Tammy has served double duty as Dr. Kalinowski's wife and Practice Manager here at Mesaba Animal Hospital since 2009. Her 'dungeon' is upstairs where she has Sassy the clinic cat that help her with her daily tasks. Dr. Kalinowski and Tammy have three children. Liz is their oldest, Bev, their middle child, and Ben is their youngest. They also have two animal kids: A bulldog (Kenya) and a cat (Flo). When not at work, she enjoys sewing, scrap booking, cross stitching, reading, and cooking.

    Fun loving Mom of two humans, one fish and four dogs!  I love all types of animals and only want the best for them all.  MAH is my dream job and I love coming to work everyday.  No two days are ever the same.  Oh, yeah, I'm married too.

    Becky joined our team in May of 2019.  She grew up in Hibbing and currently lives in Chisholm with her wonderful husband and two amazing kids.  She enjoys spending time with her 4 dogs, 2 cats, horse, mini horse, donkey, and all her other farm animals, too many to mention.

    Bobbi, Receptionist

    Bobbi joined us in June of 2011. She was born and raised here on the Iron Range.  She is married to Jon and they have 4 wonderful children and is enjoying being a Grammy to Arielle Rose who was born in June and is an absolute joy to watch grow and she is loved so much. 

    She enjoys spending time with family, going shopping, enjoys outdoor music festivals, and playing with her family pets, Ammo (Chocolate Lab), Ava Grace (St. Bernard) & her kitty Theo.

    LuAnn, Certified Veterinary Technician/ Reception

    LuAnn was a part of the team that moved to the Mesaba Animal Hospital when Dr. Kalinowski took over the practice in 2009. She was born and raised in the area and went to Ridgewater College for her A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology. LuAnn was born with a strong passion for veterinary medicine. She has a 'healthy' obsession with canine and feline dentistry. She is one of the most knowledgeable people on our staff, and this knowledge has earned her such nicknames as the 'Dental Queen' and 'Flea Queen', for her infamous, yet insightful, discussions with clients.  When you call with questions for the Doctor(s), you most likely will be talking to LuAnn. She still resides in the area with, what she calls, 'Enough animals to keep me warm in the winter months.'

    Shanon, Certified Veterinary Technician

    Shanon started out by interning with us while finishing the Veterinary Technician program at Duluth Business University, and she later moved onto our team to fill a vacancy. She grew up in Buhl, MN and now resides in Mt. Iron. In her free time, she enjoys ceramics, crocheting, reading, horse riding, and caring for her various pets on her hobby farm.

    Alyssa, Certified Veterinary Technician, KPA Certified Trainer

    Achieved my Associates in Science from Duluth Business University in 2014 and certification as a KPA Canine Trainer in 2020.  I am a passionate Technician and Trainer.  In my downtime I enjoy weekend bonfires, camping, adventures, fishing/spearing and grouse hunting with my Brittany Blaze and German Wirehair Ember.

    We are excited to announce Kylee is studying to be a certified veterinary technician here at Mesaba Animal Hospital.  She lives in Chisholm with her family.  She attended HCC where she completed her Associate's degree. Kylee enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her Bloodhound, 'Daisy Duke.'

    Bev joined our team in 2019 as our housekeeping staff, errand runner, and our clinics most colorful person.  Bev enjoys reading, writing, and cuddling with all the animals despite her allergies.  As Dr. K's daughter, she loves to help with anything needed around our clinic.

    Veterinary Technician Assistant

    Sydney joined our team this past May as a Vet Tech Assistant.  Her knowledge and experience with animals comes from previously working at Range Regional Animal Rescue and is a huge benefit to our team.  She plans to attend HCC for the Law Enforcement program next fall.  In her free time she enjoys listening to music, word searches, coloring, cooking, and cuddling with her beautiful kitty Juliet and boyfriend Roger.

    Andrew Veterinary Technician

    Andrew joined our team in February of 2023.  He has been in the Veterinary industry since 2015.  He lives in Grand Rapids with his Fiance Colin: their 5 pets {2 dogs, and 3 cats}.  When not in the clinic, Andrew spends most of his time outdoors gardening, hiking, and camping.  Andrew has a passion for raising show quality meat rabbits.

    Leah Certified Veterinary Technician

    Leah joined our team in March of 2023.  She went to Argosy University where she achieved her associates of applied science in veterinary technology in 2014.  She became a certified Veterinary Technician in February 2015. She is passionate about client education, pet nutrition, and breeding high quality dogs who make wonderful companions.  She enjoys spending time on her hobby farm with her goats, sheep, horses, cows, chickens, ducks, pigs, rabbits, dogs, and cats.  She also enjoys spending time with her three children and husband.  Her hobbies include horseback riding, crocheting, reading, and spinning.
